Are you wondering what type of coronavirus test you need? There are two different types of tests for coronavirus: the COVID-19 test and the coronavirus antibodies/antigens test. The COVID-19 test helps determine if you are currently sick from COVID-19. In contrast, the antibodies test looks at the antibodies in your blood to see if you have been exposed to coronavirus or whether you have had COVID-19 previously. Learn more about the differences between these two coronavirus tests from your Sugar Land emergency clinic.

Need a COVID-19 Antigen Test for Exposure Issues?
Call our Sugar Land hospital and schedule an appointment for a COVID-19 antigens test. Our COVID test returns results in our certified lab in 15 minutes. The test used is the Sofia SARS Antigen test and is approved for emergency use by the FDA. The Sofia SARS Antigen FIA provides automated and objective results in 15 minutes, allowing for testing of patients suspected of COVID-19/2019-nCoV exposure.
If you currently have symptoms of COVID-19, you will need the COVID-19 test. For this test, you will need to visit our Sugar Land emergency room for testing and treatment. Before your test, your doctor will need to rule out other causes of your symptoms, such as the flu, sinus infections, or respiratory infections. For the COVID-19 test, we will culture the secretions at the back of your nose and throat to determine if you have COVID-19. To do so, we perform what we call a nasopharyngeal test, which is where we place a swab up your nasal passage and toward the back of your throat. Then, we send the sample to our laboratory for testing. Additionally, we’ll monitor your symptoms in our Sugar Land emergency clinic for complications of COVID-19.
Some of the symptoms you may experience if you are suffering from COVID-19 include:
- Fever & Chills
- Cough with congestion
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing
- Shaking with chills
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste or smell
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms and believe you have COVID-19, come into the emergency room for testing and Sugar Land emergency care.
Think You Were Exposed to Coronavirus or Have Already Had COVID-19? Schedule an Antibodies Test at your Sugar Land Emergency Clinic
If you don’t currently have symptoms of COVID-19 but want to know if you’ve been exposed, you will need to take the antibodies test. We now offer coronavirus antibodies testing at our Sugar Land emergency clinic. The antibodies test is a simple blood test. Our laboratory will look at your blood sample to determine if you have coronavirus antibodies. These antibodies indicate you have been exposed to coronavirus or have already had COVID-19. Unlike the COVID-19 test for symptomatic patients, though, you’ll need to schedule an appointment for the antibodies test instead of visiting our emergency room.
